Russian oppositionary: Including elections in a peace plan for Ukraine is a trap

From the Dialog, Nov 21, 2025:

"A dangerous trap for Ukraine in Trump's "peace" plan: expert points out a clause that went unnoticed

The "peace" plan that America is currently imposing on Ukraine contains a clause that could easily become a casus belli

According to the information regarding the peace plan's contents that has been made public so far, it includes a clause on the need to urgently hold elections in Ukraine. This is another easy casus belli.

Abbas Gallyamov, a Russian political scientist and former Kremlin speechwriter, writes about this in his blog [on Facebook - M. M.].

Just imagine the following situation: the Kremlin nominates a candidate unacceptable to Ukrainians, for example, Tsarev (a traitor to Ukraine, a collaborator – ed.), the Ukrainian Central Election Commission refuses to register him, and voila: Putin declares the elections "disrupted," the treaty violated, and launches a new invasion.

Even if we imagine that Ukrainians register this pro-Kremlin candidate, this won't save the situation. He will begin to violate electoral law so demonstratively that he will be forced to withdraw (let's not forget that in Ukraine, the courts are independent from the executive branch and are guided solely by the law, not by political considerations). The Kremlin will again use this candidate's withdrawal as a pretext for war.

A peace treaty must include Russia's commitment not to use anything that happens during the Ukrainian elections as a pretext for renewed hostilities. The Ukrainian elections are an internal matter for Ukraine, not a subject for discussion by the international community."
