Trump rarely criticizes his best buddy Putin, but in the rare cases he does, he usually dampens it with criticism of Zelensky as well - for some made-up sins, such as the way he talks; and example is this May 26 post on Truth Social:
This phenomenon was explained by Ukrainian journalist Vitaly Portnikov the same day - translating from the Dialog:
"Portnikov "told a fairy tale" where the "naked emperor" spoke out against the "crazy villain": "It never happened..."
Vitaly Portnikov commented on the US President's attack on Putin and Zelensky at the same time
Vitaly Portnikov explained that Trump attacks both Putin and Zelensky in one speech only because he is angry at each of them, but for different reasons. If the Russian dictator undermines his reputation by ignoring the advice of the US president, Zelensky does not allow the world to forget about the war in Ukraine, pointing out the impotence of Trump who cannot stop the war.
"Trump's reputation is being ruined not only by Putin with his crimes, but also by Zelensky, who with his statements does not allow the world to ignore Russian crimes. In this way, he creates additional problems for the US President, which is very good in this situation. It would be bad if Zelensky listened to Trump's statements and stopped pushing Trump and his administration to take more decisive action against Russia. We must realize that Trump, like Putin, understands only a strong position and talks only to those who talk to him from a position of strength," the political observer expressed his point of view.
Then Vitaly Portnikov voiced the reasons for Trump's dissatisfaction with Putin and Zelensky: "I would distinguish between attacks on Putin and on Zelensky. Attacks on Putin are related to crimes, to murders, to the fact that the actions of the Russian dictator are destroying his reputation not only as a negotiator, but also as a person who worries about people who are killed. Attacks on Zelensky are related to the fact that he, like the boy from Andersen's fairy tale, tells the world that the "emperor" in the Oval Office is "naked." The "emperor" really doesn't like this, but he should at least "dress" sometimes when he appears in public after playing golf.""
