It is well known that recent Russian battlefield maps are increasingly at odds with reality, since Russia claims to occupy territories that are in fact disputed or firmly under Ukrainian control. This is the result of Russian commanders lying to improve their stance with Gerasimov and Putin. However, as French analyst Clement Molin pointed out, this creates a danger that, if and when a truce is negotiated with de facto partitioning of Ukrainian territory along battlefield lines, Russia may insist on its bogus maps, claim cities it does not hold, and accuse Ukraine in violation of the agreement.
